Can you diagnose sleep apnea?
While Amherst dentist Dr. Edwards has training in ways to help treat sleep apnea in patients who suffer from the disorder, we cannot diagnose it. Sleep apnea diagnosis requires an overnight sleep study in a certified sleep clinic, overseen by a doctor. It cannot be diagnosed by a dentist.
What Can You Do About Sleep Apnea?
If you have already been diagnosed with sleep apnea, and you find you cannot tolerate CPAP therapy, we can help. Our Amherst, NH dental office offers oral appliance therapy as an alternative to, or in conjunction with, CPAP treatments. Oral appliance therapy consists of a mouthpiece you insert before sleep that helps reposition the tongue or jaw to facilitate easier breathing throughout the night.
These appliances can also be used to treat snoring that is not related to sleep apnea, and we have many snorers (and spouses) that are very grateful for this assistance!
