Children's First Dental Visit Amherst NH

As a parent, your child's health and well-being are a top priority. You work hard to ensure that they eat the right foods, get plenty of exercise, and enough rest to keep them happy and healthy. Your child's oral health is just as important, and you want to ensure that their first dental visits are successful so they feel comfortable and even excited about going to the dentist. Dr. Kenneth Edwards has been serving families in NH for over thirty years, and as your premiere kid's dentist in Amherst, NH he shares more on what you can expect from your child's first dental appointment.

Preparing for the First Visit

Parents should begin brushing their child's teeth as soon as they appear, as this acclimates your child to the toothbrush and the process. We recommend that your child have their first dental appointment around the age of two or three years old unless you have specific concerns early on. We encourage parents to bring their little ones to their own dental appointments so your child can get to know our office and feel comfortable when it's their turn for a visit.

The First Appointment

We spend the first few visits getting to know your child and helping them acclimate and feel at ease at the dental office. They'll take a ride in the dental chair and Dr. Edwards will count their teeth, and we'll perform a cleaning if your child feels comfortable enough. Our goal is to keep every visit to our office fun and upbeat so your child looks forward to their dental appointments. By the age of four or five your child should be having regular visits for cleanings and check-ups to our office twice per year, or every six months.

As your child gets older, we may recommend advanced services for them such as fluoride treatment, which helps to build and strengthen small teeth. Dental sealants will help protect your child's teeth from tooth decay and cavities.

At Family Care Dental, we look forward to building a relationship with your child and helping them to achieve great oral health. Contact our office today to schedule your child's next appointment.
