Our world currently faces unprecedented circumstances. Because of the COVID-19 outbreak, millions of Americans are now without the routine dental care they need.

At the dental office of Dr. Kenneth G. Edwards, we recognize that these are challenging times for many of you. If your routine dental checkup was supposed to be during March or April, or if you’ve had a “problem tooth” that’s bothered you for a while, you’re probably feeling frustrated that you cannot get to your Amherst, NH dentist.

Because we’re only open for dental emergencies at this time, we’d like to offer some tips for staying on top of your oral health while you’re isolating at home.

How to Keep Your Teeth Healthy

  • Wear a mouthguard if you’re playing a sport or participating in any activity that could result in a broken or knocked-out tooth
  • Drink plenty of water (make sure it has added fluoride!) and minimize your intake of sugary drinks and sodas
  • Replace your toothbrush immediately if you or anyone you live with has been ill or had a presumed case of COVID-19
  • Wash your hands thoroughly before brushing or flossing your teeth
  • Increase your daily tooth brushing from a minimum of twice per day. Instead, try to brush about 30 minutes after every meal or snack
  • Resist the temptation to skip or cut back on your flossing—it’s more important than ever to keep your teeth clean
  • Choose healthy snacks that are low in sugar and high in calcium, vitamins, and minerals
  • Rinse with an antibacterial or fluoride mouthwash at least once per day
  • Schedule or reschedule your dental cleaning and exam in Amherst, NH for later this year
